How to: Severed Finger
This is how I made this severed finger, having picked up a few tips online and adding a few of my own techniques.
1. I coated my whole finger in liquid latex using a disposable paintbrush. Once this was dry, I added another layer and repeated the process until my finger was entirely covered and thick enough to not tear easily.
2. Once dry, I then coated the whole thing in talcum powder. This is usually done with finishing powder, but I found that talc was more effective. This stops the latex from sticking to itself!
3. I then carefully peeled the prosthetic off my finger so that the inside was now the outside - so that the prosthetic picked up all of the natural lines and fingerprints on my finger.
4. I then filled the inside with cotton wool.
5. Taking a makeup sponge, I then gently applied liquid foundation to the prosthetic to give a more realistic skintone.
6. I then sealed the end of the prosthetic with a thin coat of liquid latex. You can do this before step 5, as it’ll need painting afterwards anyway!
7. I then used different makeup to make the finger look more realistic. I added black facepaint on a stippling brush and applie around the nail (the character that I will be using this for is very dirty most of the time!). I also applied the black around the knuckle to deepen the lines, and fake blood at the severed end.
8. I then made sure that the end was completely covered!
9. Finished!
